The best and most popular way to experience the 84km Timber Trail is on a one-way, two-day ride starting at Pureora and ending at Ongarue (north to south).
An overnight stay is a very special experience, with most riders staying around the halfway mark at Piropiro where there are lodges and a conservation campsite, as well as a shuttle-pick up point for accommodation further afield.
The full Timber Trail is best suited to cyclists of average fitness and ability. Ambitious riders can complete it in one day.
The trail can also be broken into shorter and return rides via either trailhead, or from Piropiro near the trail’s midpoint. Beginners and families will love the short rides from Pureora.
The Timber Trail can be ridden all year around, with the best conditions enjoyed from October to May.
